Herbal Remedies for Anxiety

Do you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Are you feeling constantly worried and tense?
  • Are you finding it difficult to carry on daily activities either at work or at home

Answering Yes to one or more of the above questions indicate that you are suffering from anxiety related problems. In my previous post, I have described more about what anxiety is, symptoms and the home remedies that can be used to treat anxiety. Here, I will give you a lot of herbal remedies that can be used for treating anxiety.

Herbal Remedies for Anxiety

Chamomile

Chamomile is a great herb that is used for treating Anxiety. There are many compounds contained in Chamomile like Matricaria Recutita which have a calming effect on the mind. If you are suffering from anxiety disorder, consume a tea spoon of Chamomile powder once in a day for 6 – 8 weeks. There will be significant improvement.

Green Tea

Green Tea is a good herbal remedy for treating anxiety. It contains a type of amino acid called L-theanine which helps maintain moderate level of heart rate and blood pressure.

Valerian

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is primarily used for treating insomnia. It is used as a sleeping aid for people suffering from sleeplessness. Take this herb in the evening before going to bed. Do not consume it during the daytime.

Lemon Balm

Lemon Balm is a good herbal medicine which has been used since ancient time for treating stress and anxiety. Taking a spoon of Lemon balm powder calms the mind greatly and brings good sleep.

Passionflower

This herb is a good sedative. It has been used as a medicine for treating restlessness. It is also a good herbal medicine for treating insomnia.

Lavender

It has been found that that the aroma of Lavender (Lavandula hybrida) has a great emotional effect on the mind. Inhaling the scent of lavender spray often increases the mood of the mind and gets rid of anxiety problem.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

You can consider consuming Omega-3 fatty acids for longer periods like 3 to 6 months. They are good for the heart and is a great remedy for treating depression and anxiety. Sea water fishes like Salman are great sources of fish oil and can be consumed in great quantities.

Almonds

Take about 10 pieces of almonds and soak it overnight. Grind it and mix it with a cup of milk and a pinch of ginger. Drink this daily before going to bed.

Orange

Orange is a great fruit that relieves anxiety. The specialty is that Orange is beneficial both externally and internally. The aroma of the Orange peel has a great good effect on the mood levels of the body. You may also try to consume orange juice with honey, which is a great home remedy.

Anxiety Problems

Precautions in treating anxiety

  • Though there are a lot of herbal medicines as listed above, take caution not to consume more than one herbal medicine at a time.
  • You can take the above mentioned medicines upto 6 to 8 weeks. If you do not find significant improvement, meet a physician. Do not consume the medicine further.
